Mrs. Larson, one of our school counselors, describes important class registration instructions for the next school year.
Due Dates
Due to weather-related school closings, the new deadline for submitting course requests for next year is Wednesday, February 12th at the round table at all lunch shifts.
Students having forms completed by advisement on Monday, Feb. 10, may submit their forms at that time to the advisement teacher. Students may also submit forms at lunch shifts Monday-Wednesday, Feb. 10-12.
Notes about math courses
You must take at least one credit of math each year, even if you have earned four math credits. For those planning to attend a four-year college, be aware that most colleges do not consider Contemporary Math a rigorous math class.
New Financial Literacy requirement for some students
Starting with the Class of 2016: You are required to have a one-half credit of Financial Literacy in order to graduate. Classes meeting the Financial Literacy requirement are: Managing Your Personal Finance (paired with Keyboarding or SAT Prep), introduction to Business, Microsoft Certification 1, Agricultural Science and Technology, Introduction to Career Research and Development (juniors and seniors only), Advanced Career Development (seniors only), and Money Finance and Economics (offered online through the Frederick County Virtual School.)
Thoughts about AP courses
Students are encouraged to enroll in a rigorous coursework, including Advanced Placement (AP) courses, but also keep in mind the significant workload required in AP courses. Also, students are encouraged to explore the entrance requirements of individually- desired colleges and universities to ascertain their expectations for AP exam scores.
Reminder about internships
Mentor-internships require completion of an additional application. See Mr. Brown or Mrs. Radil-Harris for more information.
Open campus/dual enrollment
Open campus/dual enrollment continues to be in operation for seniors. If you are considering taking English 101 at FCC for your English 12 Honors credit, you must take that class during the Fall 2014 semester. You must sign up for an LHS English course on your registration form. Schedules will be adjusted once all paperwork and fees are completed. Be sure to go to FCC in early summer to complete the placement exams and register for classes.
Alternates
Be sure to select three alternate courses indicating A1, A2, and A3. Only one alternate can be a PE course. Choose your alternates seriously.
