On April 16, the All-County Dance performance took place at Thomas Johnson Highschool. Linganore High school (LHS), Governor Thomas Johnson High School (TJHS), Thomas Johnson Middle school (TJMS) and the Academy of Fine Arts (AFA) all participated in displaying dances in the showcase.
There were a total of 18 dances performed by the various dance teams, with four of those from LHS students. Seniors Jordyn Shipley and Elizabeth Van Meter, sophomore Isabella Varesco and freshman Aubrey Brittain were all selected to perform a dance with other chosen dancers.
The following dances choreographed and performed by LHS: Shoes, Dancing In the Dark, Superheroes and Bieber Mix.
Aubrey Brittain, freshman at LHS, said, “My favorite dance was Dancing in the Dark. It has more tricks, so we get to do more.”
Each dance was designed to have something special and unique to make it stand out. For instance, Dancing in the Dark was performed in the dark with flashlights that flashed on during certain parts of the song. Overall it was a fun and exciting piece and was definitely a crowd favorite.
Jada Redmond, junior at LHS, said, “Superheroes was my favorite dance. I like the lights and costumes and just the overall vibe of the dance.”
For the seniors, Superheroes was a powerful yet meaningful dance. The seniors in the dance class dressed up as superheroes and led everyone else in their dance. They performed as Spiderman, Captain America, Hulk, Supergirl and Wolverine + Deadpool.
Freshman Aubrey Brittan shared her favorite dance of the event, which was a performance by the Academy for the Fine Arts called Narcissus.
LHS English and dance teacher Randi Kirkland agreed.
Narcissus was “My absolute favorite. It inspired me for next year to really achieve that kind of story telling.”
In this dance, the dancers wore raggedy clothes to look as if they were poor and used LED hand-held mirrors as props.
All of the schools showcased their talent and successfully performed the choreography they have been rehearsing for the audience. Everyone is looking forward to next year’s All County production and excited to see what the future will bring.
