From Friday, April 30 to Monday, May 3, The Student Voices Club at Linganore High School (LHS) ran a thrift store in the LHS cafeteria, where they sold an assortment of donated articles of clothing and jewelry.
The thrift store was also set up at the LHS Spring Carnival on Wednesday, April 28, continuing over the next few days.
On tables set up in the cafeteria were an arrangement of sweaters, jackets, t-shirts, hats, shoes, necklaces, earrings, bracelets and more, all donated by members of the community.
All students and faculty members present in the LHS cafeteria were invited to freely browse and purchase the items on the tables. These items were sold at a very low cost with the purpose of raising money for the Student Voices club.
The store was staffed by LHS Junior Jeremias Romero and LHS seniors Harry Sauer and Logan Silva.
“We are selling clothes, shoes, and jewelry in order to raise money for student voices,” Romero said. “We did really good at the carnival Wednesday night… it’s going here and there.”

Students and teachers alike stopped by the table on the three days it was open. On it’s first evening alone, the thrift store sold 130 dollars worth of clothes, jewelry, and other items.
Some of the most popular items sold at the store were jewelry. The main driving force behind the popularity of necklaces and earrings, in particular, was the upcoming holiday of Mother’s Day, which fell on the Sunday after the thrift store, and Prom, which was held that Friday.
Virtually all of the jewelry sold came from a lone anonymous donor.
Wherever the jewelry came from, it certainly helped the store with its popularity, and the plan is for the store to return annually.
