Linganore High School’s (LHS) annual Powder Puff game made a return on April 17, 2026. The event flips the usual roles by having the junior and senior girls compete against each other in two quarters of flag football, while the junior and senior boys get fired up as cheerleaders.
The stands were filled with students and parents cheering for their peers. Each grade level entered the field with matching jerseys, green for juniors and pink for the seniors. Each jersey had a nickname for the student uniquely crafted for them just for an extra element of silliness.
The game itself was intense, both teams came prepared with rehearsed plays, strong defensive lines and athletic skills.
Alongside the action on the field, the boys’ cheer squads added their cheerfulness, performing routines that had the crowd laughing and cheering in equal measure. Their energy helped keep spirits high throughout the game.
Nick Graves, senior at LHS, performed as a cheerleader back spotting senior Jabari Gray, s from the sidelines. He shared how he took his part in the powder puff game seriously.
Cael McKinney, senior at LHS and cheerleader for this year’s powderpuff, shared his thoughts on the game as well.
“I am really proud of how we did in the game, I mean we definitely had some athletic juniors up against our team but we pushed through and I was just happy to be supporting on the sidelines,” said McKinney.
The cheerleaders on the opposing side, the juniors, were jumping up and down with excitement for each pass and touchdown made by their team.
The players on the field trained weeks in advance for this game and applied their skills on the field.
Sydney Hall, junior at LHS, described what it was like to play as a member of a well-performing team at the Powder Puff game.
“Honestly, I really think it was just us coming together that made it worth it,” said Hall.
Although the excitement on both sides carried through the whole game to the very end, the senior team could not control their excitement when they won the game. As the final whistle blew, the seniors celebrated on the field while the cheerleaders joined in on the excitement.
