Last year, a new elective class was introduced at Linganore High School (LHS) called Concert Choir.
The Concert Choir is taught by Mackenzie Berry, an LHS teacher who just joined the staff this year.
The choir has recently had an exponential spike in students, having grown from a few to an entire class full, something Ms. Berry took pride in.
“[Berry is] really proud of [its growth and is] thrilled to have so many students involved in choir.” She said.
With a larger class, Berry’s plans for Choir have also expanded. She hopes to grow the concert choir to be even stronger and to perform in more places like Disneyland in Florida.
Linganore High School sophomore and secretary for the Concert Choir London Taylor described the Concert Choir as fun and inclusive.
“It’s amazing when everyone comes together and just hearing the different voices singing [together],” She said.
As secretary, she keeps track of the Choir and keeps it organized. Additionally, Taylor speaks highly of her membership in the choir itself.
“It’s nice to be part of something bigger than [myself],” Taylor said.
She was drawn to join the Concert Choir after joining choir in 3rd grade.
“I’ve always really liked singing,” Taylor said.
Taylor mentions that the work in Concert choir is extremely enjoyable. They do both rhythmic sight reading, where they clap along to the notes, and melodic sight reading, where they sing the notes.
She talks about the growth of the Concert Choir, and how she was surprised to see how it has grown since last year. After starting with only 12 people, the choir has now grown to 33 people.

So far, Concert Choir has held concerts for events like winter back in December, Black History month and have an upcoming spring concert on May 7.
Berry hopes to be able to travel for more performances, saying it would be a great chance for the students of Concert Choir.
“[She] would really love the opportunity to bring my students to Disney World.” Berry said. She also talks about wanting to bring them to “New York, Boston, or Chicago.”
The choir worked extremely hard to get to the point that they are at today and you can support them by going to one of their concerts, the next concert being on May 7 at 7 pm.
