On April 29, Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) hosted its annual All-County Dance recital to showcase the county’s best dancers.
Members of the All-County Dance Team gathered at Governor Thomas Johnson High School (GTJHS) to prepare for the concert later in the evening. They spent their school day learning choreography and performing with other schools.
Students were selected for the All-County Dance Team based on their higher-level dance technique and execution of challenging choreography. A limited number of dancers were chosen from each high school in Frederick County.
Linganore High School (LHS) junior Asha Prasad has been in the LHS dance program since her freshman year. She did not think that the performance was stressful and she had fun dancing with her class.

“It was fun and it wasn’t stressful at all,” said Prasad. “Everyone was super sweet and I am glad I met so many dancers from other schools.”
During one of their dances, the seniors are dressed in their college shirts while wearing their caps for graduation. This is a very emotional dance for everyone on stage, as this is the seniors last performance.
“My favorite part was performing our senior dance and everyone started crying; it was like all 10 of us crying together on stage,” said Prasad.
Besides the students chosen for the All-County performance, dance groups from each high school around the county were asked to showcase what they have been working on in their dance classes. Linganore was able to perform five of their student-choreographed dances.
LHS junior Melissa Bowman is grateful that FCPS still has enough dancers to host the All-County recital. She reported there are fewer schools performing than last year, but she is happy that the show was still put on.
“It was a great experience, and I am glad that there are still enough dance programs in Frederick County to still have the performance,” said Bowman.
Another LHS student, sophomore Olivia Morgan, has never been a part of the dance program until this year. She felt that the ambiance was very friendly and she had fun performing on stage.
“I had so much fun and the atmosphere was really welcoming and supportive,” said Morgan.
