On February 4, Linganore High School (LHS) senior Bradly Matthews signed his National Letter of Intent to play Division I football at Georgetown University in Washington D.C.
Matthews believes that Georgetown will be the best fit for him academically and athletically. He is looking forward to playing in a new college football environment and continuing his football career at the collegiate level.
Matthews hopes that attending Georgetown will help him explore being either a physical therapist or an anesthesiologist. However, his main goal is to take it to the National Football League (NFL).
At Linganore, Mathews is a well-known athlete. He has played football for the Linganore Lancers as well as the Fairfield Knights in Pennsylvania.
“I didn’t live here when I was younger, but moving here for my high school career definitely means a lot.” Matthews said.
Matthews has played football for about six years and has spent three of those years playing for the LHS varsity football team. He holds many of Frederick County’s high school football records.
Matthews is the all-time touchdown scorer in Frederick County with 81 total touchdowns. He was also the Frederick News Post Player of the Year for offense twice.
Matthews values his education as well. He balances academics and athletics by staying focused and having the support of his family.
“I got my grandad and family on me at all times about it [academics]” Matthews said, “so, that really just pushed me to be the best I could.”
The amount of support from Mathews’ family really pushed him to be the best he could be academically and played a large role in his athletic success.
Matthews highlights a significant moment in his football career as winning the 2025 Maryland Class 3A State Football Championship in his senior year. He shared that it was his favorite memory of his time playing for Linganore.
During the Signing Day Ceremony held in the LHS gym, Linganore Varsity Head Coach, Rick Conner praised Matthews for his many accomplishments, his impact and significance to Linganore football.
“Hes left his mark on Linganore High School,” Conner said. “And we do have some big shoes to fill.”
