Linganore High School’s (LHS) next musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone,” was announced on Friday, October 31, 2025.
This show is not as well known as some of the shows that Linganore has done in the past. “The Drowsy Chaperone” is a musical within a comedy, with many types of characters ranging from two lovebirds to gangsters disguised as pastry chefs.
Auditions were held from December 8-11,after school each day. There were different parts of the audition process for the musical. The first day of auditions focused on singing, the second on acting and the third on dancing. Following this, there were callbacks for finalists who the directors wanted to see again. By splitting up the process, many people auditioned more comfortably.
“I think that it’s a lot less stressful,” Linganore freshman Alice Kelpy said. “Instead of trying to prepare for singing, acting and dancing at the same time, you have space before you go and audition.”
The directors explained what they look for during the course of auditions. According to staff director math teacher Dan Lake, the directors look for originality and enjoy seeing all of the kids audition.
“Well, what I look forward to with auditions is the fact that I get to sit in a room and watch really talented people show off,” Lake said. “It’s so much fun to see auditions and just to see all the great talent we have in the building.”
A total of 42 people auditioned for this show. Many people start practicing for auditions immediately after receiving their audition packets to better prepare themselves for each audition.
Linganore sophomore Ethan Block shared his advice for his peers who may get nervous before they audition.
“Just believe in yourself,” Block said. “You might not feel like you could do it, but that’s your downfall. When you put yourself into that mindset of ‘I can’t do this, you keep putting yourself down. You can’t get out of the hole you’re digging in, if you don’t put the shovel down first.”
The cast list came out on December 11, after a long week of auditions.
While many people at all grade levels participated in auditions, not everyone that auditioned received a part.
Even though there were people who were cut from the show, all had the option to join the crew after the cast list was posted, and still be a part of the show experience.
