7th Sister is a new Restaurant in Frederick’s downtown area; it opened on May 17, by hosting a comedy show. The 7th sister restaurant, located at 228 North Market Street,-is a “Mid-Atlantic” inspired restaurant operating from an historic mansion in downtown Frederick.
The restaurant is an original building from 1890 built by six sisters: Catherine, Georgianna, Elizabeth, Emma, Matilda and Ellen. The owner said that they like to think of the house as the 7th sister, which is why they named it 7th Sister Restaurant. The straightforward title is a great way to incorporate their family history into the name of the restaurant.
Most people park in the rear parking lot and enter through the back entrance. Walking in, patrons see the backyard with a fire pit, corn hole and a bar for folks to grab a drink. The restaurant offers a unique dining experience with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant provides a comfortable scene ideal for both casual dining and special occasions, as they have private rooms available to patrons.
According to their website, 7th Sister Restaurant wishes to create “a cultural home for artists, filmmakers, musicians and performers” by presenting art, showing films in the upstairs theater and providing a stage for live bands to perform and plenty of seating for people to enjoy the music.
The restaurant has something for everyone from $16-$30. For starters they have many choices of appetizers to choose from, such as common bond crab dip served with a warm baguette, homemade hush puppies and calamari served with cherry tomato marmalade. I ordered the crab dip, and it was amazing. It was very cheesy, and the bread seemed very fresh and had a perfect crunch to pair with the dip. The restaurant sources many of their fresh ingredients from different local businesses, which is evident in how my food tasted!
The 7th Sister Restaurant has a very diverse menu offering things like Cassoulet, Romanesque Branzino and Maryland crabcakes. I picked out the Frederick-style cheesesteak. It was topped with caramelized onions and a mix of sharp cheese and gouda. The steak was cooked to perfection, and the bread was phenomenal. Total price for entrees ranged from $19 for the chickpea faux chicken salad to $60 for the steak holder frites.

However, despite the extensive and creative menu, people with specific dietary restrictions may have issues finding food they can eat, specifically those with gluten allergies.
Cole Pfieffer, a customer at 7th Sister Restaurant shared his thoughts about the establishment
“It is my go-to spot for meetings with coworkers, and I personally love the food,” Pfeiffer said.
Similarly, Michael Schofield claimed his favorite Frederick restaurant by far is 7th Sister because of the excellent staff and copious menu options to choose from.
Personally, I found service at the 7th Sister phenomenal because my server was attentive but not intrusive on my dining experience. Staff members were also knowledgeable about the menu and were happy to provide recommendations. They were patient, knowing this was my first time at the restaurant. The pace of the service was well-managed, allowing each course to be eaten with no rush.
The only minor downside to my dining experience was that the restaurant got quite busy around the peak dinner time hours, from approximately 6-7:30 p.m. For this reason, making a reservation would definitely be recommended. Additionally, the interior space is not huge, so it fills up rather quickly.
All in all, I would say that this restaurant is a solid 9/10. Between the welcoming atmosphere, extraordinary service and extensive menu, it was an overall great dining experience. Whether you are just passing through Frederick and want to stop for a bite, or you are looking for a night out, 7th sister is definitely worth stopping by.

I went here during one of Frederick’s downtown events and sat outside in the garden and really enjoyed listening to music and ordering beverages. It’s a really pretty setting, I can’t wait to try the restaurant inside.:)
