In 2012, a major American girl group would form that became a centerpiece for children born in the early 2000s. Fifth Harmony, based in Miami, featured five women aged 15 to 19: Ally Brooke, Normani Kordei Hamilton, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui and Camila Cabello.
Their career kicked off when they participated in the hit music competition, X Factor in the summer of 2012.
Brooke, Hamilton, Jane, Jauregui and Cabello, all auditioned as soloists during the second season of the show. Four of the girls, despite being recognized for their talent, failed to enter the teens category while Brooke, the oldest of the group, was declined from the Young Adults category.I asked Grace Bise a fan of X-factor how she felt when the girls failed to make their categories she said “It was kinda sad they looked like they fought hard and looked disappointed.”
The judges, who did not have enough spots in the competition for five solo artists, decided to bring the girls back on stage and they were instantaneously made it into the five-woman show, placing them in the Qualifying Groups category of the competition show.
Even with placing 3rd in the competition, the girls were still invited to sign with X Factor judge Simon Cowell and his record label, Syco Music, in partnership with Epic Records. The group named Fifth Harmony would become a household name, releasing three studio albums and a total of 194 songs.
Despite their initial success, the girl group began to take a tumble when Cabello, who was generally recognized as the stand-out singer in the group, left to pursue a solo career. In March 2018, Fifth Harmony went on an indefinite hiatus to work on their own solo careers.
On August 31, in Dallas, Texas, Fifth Harmony was seen performing together for the first time in seven years at the Jonas Brothers’ – a popular boy band made up of brothers Joe, Nick, and Paul (Kevin) – tour titled “JONAS20: Greetings From Your Hometown” tour.
The girl group’s performance featured Brooke, Hamilton, Jauregui and Jane. However, Cabello, who has the most successful solo career of the original five girls, did not attend the reunion, instead showing her support through social media. The girl group performed their songs “Worth It” and “work from home” which are their most popular songs.
Chelsea Bertucco, a longtime fan of both Fifth Harmony and the Jonas Brothers , hopes that this is the beginning of many reunions and shares her hopes of future performances.
“New music sprinkled in with some old songs at a reunion tour would be fantastic,” said Bertucco.
After the concert concluded, the group released merchandise with the slogan “where were you on August 31, 2025?” The excitement from the surprise reunion led to the merchandise selling out quickly after its release.
According to , the famous girl group has begun talking about the potential for more reunions and even a potential tour. The tour would not feature Cabello, who has her own tour, which began selling tickets in September. “Its always fun to remember singing along with my friends when we would hangout together,”Burtucco said.
