The Linganore Lancers have been undefeated since the beginning of the season. Continuing with their sixth win against the Frederick High School (FHS) Cadets, the Lancers’ varsity football team were able to swipe their latest win on October 10 at home.
The Lancers took the lead fairly early in the first quarter. Senior Amir Short (#5) scored the first touchdown of the game in the first play of the game, within the first minute. The extra point was secured by sophomore Cole Moe (#45), who stepped up from JV when both varsity kickers were out.
Four minutes later, junior Bradley Matthews (#3) was able to grab the next Lancer touchdown, building on Linganore’s lead.
With seconds left in the first half, Frederick Cadet, Miles Robinson (#3), scored a touchdown, with the help of Cory Martin (#1) and Jaden Kenyatta (#8). The Lancers were able to score a third touchdown before the quarter ended, leaving the Cadets further behind, 21-7.
As the second quarter began, Jake Feight (#10) on Linganore scored a touchdown, leading the Lancers closer to a victory. The second touchdown of the quarter came when Amir Short (#5) scored another touchdown However, the Frederick Cadets were able to score another touchdown themselves to narrow the Lancer lead, leaving the game 35-14.
At half-time, numerous student groups took the field to showcase their talents and cheer on the Lancers. This included a performance from Linagore’s Pom and Dance team, Linganore Band and the Colorguard. As Linganore’s Pom and Dance team showed their moves, senior Kaycee Schultz performed a solo dance with batons.
As the game progressed into the third quarter, the Lancers took hold of the game scoring two more touchdowns. With no huge plays made in the 4th, the final score was 49-14, giving the Lancers another victory and another game down on their way to an undefeated season. It looks as if the Lancers will have a promising season if they keep up the streak, making it to their goal of going back to states.
Lancers will take on the Middletown Knights on Friday, October 19.
