On February 4, Linganore High School (LHS) senior Drew Rupp signed his National Letter of Intent to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) to continue his athletic and academic career.
Rupp transferred to LHS from Saint James School his senior year. Here, he has a large support system of friends to motivate him through his time at Linganore.
Linganore High School senior Carter Townsend shared his support of his friend and his continued athletic career.
“I met Drew playing with him when we were younger, and ever since then he has been my boy,” Townsend said. “I would say he is really driven and determined in lacrosse.”
He has also shown incredible dedication and skill throughout his sports career at Linganore and Saint James. Taking the next step to play at the college level is a big accomplishment, and his friends are very proud of him.
Although Rupp signed to play lacrosse for UMBC, he also exceeded expectations as a player on the Linganore High School varsity football team.
While only being a first-year player, LHS varsity football coach Rick Conners said Rupp was an “impact player from day one.” He described Rupp as “athletic, tough [and] physical [and someone who] shows up every day to work [and] has fun.”
Rupp shared that his family has provided a great deal of support for his athletic career as well.
Tara Rupp, Drew’s mom, recognizes his achievements as an athlete.
“When he’s on the field, he makes his teammates better,” Tara Rupp said. “He has a way of changing the momentum of a game through his energy and effort.”
“My main supporter and motivator has definitely been my dad,” Drew Rupp said. “He makes sure I have everything I need to be successful and encourages me to be the best player I can.”
In college, Rupp plans to treat both lacrosse and his academic career as ‘full-time commitments’ and apply the same discipline he learned on the field to get his work done in school. After his time spent in college, Rupp sees himself pursuing a full-time career in athletics.
