At the start of the 2025-2026 school year, Linganore gained a new mathematics teacher, Angelina Garcia.
Garcia grew up in Western New York, where she went to college, earning her Bachelors degree in Spanish and Psychology from Canisius College, located in Buffalo New York. She later earned a Master’s of Science (MS) in Education.
Garcia has been teaching for over 25 years, before joining Linganore. Garcia began her teaching career working with children in elementary school. She then went on to teach English Language learning (ELL), and more recently at Middletown Middle School, she taught Spanish and French
Garcia said she especially liked teaching at Middletown since she had lived there, but she decided to make a change to explore new teaching content such as math and came to teach at Linganore. Because Garcia is a life-time student, she has taken many different math courses and wanted to challenge herself with a new content area.
“I like being able to switch content areas once I become pretty well-versed in something else,” Garcia said. “So you can learn [content] yourself. Right now, I’m learning how to teach math.”
Before becoming a teacher, Garcia wanted to be a lawyer and a criminal profiler. She then changed her major and earned a degree in psychology and Spanish. Garcia had a friend going through the graduate education program, and after waiting tables for a few years, she decided to join the program, too.
What drew Garcia to become a teacher was working with children, as well as the lifestyle and having multiple breaks and summer break off.
Garcia has been abroad many times, going to Venice Italy, Paris France, Belgium, Spain Costa Rica. She hopes to go to Iceland over this year’s winter break, and to move somewhere in the Caribbean after retiring.
Garcia had advice for students to follow her lead as it relates to learning and challenging themselves.
“Students should become lifelong learners,” Garcia said. “Keep pushing your boundaries, and always ask why.”
