Girls’ soccer had one last scrimmage on September 5 vs Howard County’s Atholton Raiders in preparation for the start of their regular season.

The Lancers struck first with a goal from Sammie Hoefs early in the match. However, Atholton responded later in the first half with a goal.

The game was very physical and both teams held possession of the ball well. However, midway through the second half, senior captain Taylor Ferguson was fouled near the corner flag, resulting in a free kick for the Lancers. She sent the free kick into the box, and Meghan Mong-Kerwin was able to put it away in the back of the net.

“I think we played well and improved from our scrimmage last week vs. Magruder High School. Our team is looking very promising for our upcoming season,” said Taylor Ferguson. That game ended with a 3-0 win, and the team recognized they needed to improve more offensively by connecting more passes.

Regular season play begins on Tuesday, September 10 at South Carroll High School.
