On January 11th, Junior Dominic Barbagallo presented a speech and answered questions during the Student Member of the Board Town Hall event.

The student member of the board is a vessel of communication between the students of FCPS and the Board of Education. By voting for the candidate of their choice, students will be able to choose a fellow student to voice their opinion to lobby the board during meetings.

Dominic Barbagallo, a junior at Linganore High School, says, “Students should vote for me because I have the most experience working with the board when compared to the other candidates. As the SMOB, I plan on reaching a better future for all students of FCPS. My first goal will be lowering class sizes by adding new courses to the curriculum.”

This year, there are two other candidates running for SMOB, one from Frederick High School and one from Catoctin. The current SMOB is Will Anderson, a senior from Walkersville High School.

Barbagallo stresses the importance of this election and says, “This election is important because it is your way of bettering your school life by telling the Board of Education what you want changed.”

The voting period for this election is a month long, and begins on January 18th. All middle school and high school students are able to vote for the SMOB here.
