Just a week after spring sports started, the boys lacrosse team played their first scrimmage against Broad Run High School, a team from Ashburn, Virginia. The Lancers defeated the Spartans 13-8 on Saturday, March 7, despite the cold weather and strong winds.

Junior Midfielder Zach Keisling helped boost the Lancers to a victory with a 90 percent faceoff win percentage. Keisling also had one goal and four assists.

With Army West Point commit Will Coletti not playing, Keisling had to step up and make big plays for the team, which is exactly what he did.

“It would’ve been a whole different game if he didn’t play as well as he did,” said senior attackman Zach Michael.

Senior Cole Blanche tore up the Spartans’ defense with five goals and three assists. Blanche recently decided to play lacrosse at Howard Community College for the next two years, following in the footsteps of Linganore alumni, Jack Watsic.

After this encouraging win for the Lancers, expectations for this season begin to soar. Many players are hoping for and expecting to make a deep playoff run.

“We have the potential to win a state championship this year,” said Keisling.

The Lancers’ next home scrimmage is on Thursday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m against Quince Orchard High School
