On February 4, Linganore High School (LHS) senior Jordan Zimmerman signed her National Letter of Intent to continue her field hockey career at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland.
Zimmerman began playing field hockey over 10 years ago thanks to her friend Addison Ridgely. Ridgely convinced Zimmerman to switch from her original sport, softball, to a recreational field hockey team in Carroll County.
Little did either girl know that Zimmerman would become a field hockey star. In 2022, she entered LHS and tried out for the school’s team. As a testament to her skill, Zimmerman made varsity her freshman year and continued playing as a forward throughout her time on the team.
Four years later, Zimmerman has proven herself to be one of the best field hockey players to grace Linganore’s turf. With a win ratio of 16:2 in the fall 2025 season, while simultaneously proving herself as the heart of the team off the field, her coaches admit that Linganore will miss something special when Zimmerman graduates.
“She was our spark, our energy,” LHS field hockey coach McKenzie Ridgely said. “When we needed momentum, belief or just a big moan, Jordan consistently answered the call.”
Zimmerman’s energy not only boosted the team during regular season games but encouraged them all the way to the state championship. According to both Zimmerman and her father, Daryl Zimmerman, the championship game created a memory that will live with them for ages.
“[My favorite memory] would probably be her winning the state championship, scoring the winning goal,” Daryl Zimmerman said. “It was very exciting for us, and it just kind of made everything come together.”
There was no doubt that Jordan Zimmerman had the ability to continue her athletic career at the collegiate level; the only question was: where would she go?
While she was recruited by a number of colleges–including Belmont Abbey College, Bridgewater State University and D’Youville University–Zimmerman ultimately decided to attend Frostburg due to its location in Maryland.
“It [choosing her college] was definitely a tough process, but it all came down to [the fact] I wanted to stay close to home,” Zimmerman said.
According to Zimmerman, she plans to continue her education by majoring in exercise science. After college, she hopes to go to a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program to eventually become a physical therapist.
While her coaches admit that she will be missed, they are excited to see what she accomplishes in the Frostburg stadium.
“There is no doubt that she is ready for that challenge [competing in college],” Ridgely said. “Frostburg is gaining not only a talented forward but a driven competitor and a great teammate.”
