On May 10, Linganore senior Amanda Chesebrough signed her National Letter of Intent to Coastal Carolina University. She will be cheering at the Division I school in the fall.

Chesebrough has cheered for 15 years, started out with the Maryland Twisters before making varsity her first year at Linganore. She continued to play on varsity every year after. However, it was not until a recent clinic that she realized she wanted to continue her athletic career into college.

“I went to a clinic at Coastal Carolina last summer, and the coach told me to schedule a visit,” Chesebrough said. “I stayed in contact with him, and he even came to our [Linganore Cheers’] county competition.”

The recruiting process for Chesebrough was “pretty easy.” She stayed in touch with Coastal’s coach throughout the process and “kept him updated on the teams’ accomplishments.”

“[Coastal Carolina] ha[s] a growing cheer program that I can’t wait to be a part of,” Chesebrough said. “And, of course, the location is amazing!”

Chesebrough’s coach, Amy Rumburg, believes that Amanda will be a great addition to the cheer program at Coastal Carolina.

“She is someone who loves to see her team do well,” Rumburg said. “She works really hard at everything she does and is an absolutely beautiful flier.”

Coastal Carolina proves to be a perfect fit, providing countless academic opportunities for Chesebrough who has not yet declared a major.
