On March 21, The Linganore boys’ varsity lacrosse team took a big win against South Carroll High School in the first game of the season with the final score of 11-4.

After a long three weeks of pre-season practice, the Lancers came out strong for the first real game of the season. The boys ended the first quarter with a lead of 3-0 against the Cavaliers, giving the Lancers a big advantage from the start.

The Lancers had an even better second quarter, ending  5-0.

Linganore junior and starting face-off player Aidan Moloney commented on how the team’s play improved over the course of the game.

“We started out with some first-game nerves, but as the game went on, I thought we settled in and better controlled the pace of the game,” said Moloney.

After the end of the second quarter, the team got a 10-minute halftime break before they had to play the second half of the game. As soon as halftime was over, the boys took off. They scored an additional 3 goals to the Cavalier’s 1 to finish the third quarter.

By this point in the game, the Lancers were dominating, but they still had one more quarter to finish their first game of the season. The boys completed the game with an 11-4 lead, taking home the victory and a great start to the 2023 lacrosse season.

The Lancers leading players were senior Kyle Gardner with 3 goals and 1 assist, sophomore Marco LaRocco with 1 goal, junior David Turnbull with 2 assists and senior Kason Gibbons with 2 goals and 1 assist.

Linganore junior attack-man Maddox Levinson reflected on the teamwork demonstrated in the game.

“The team played really well; everyone played together, [and] nobody was selfish,” said Levinson. “We executed every opportunity that was given to us.”

Overall, the team put on an amazing first-game performance.

The Lancers upcoming schedule includes games against Oakdale High School on Friday, March 31 at Oakdale and against Urbana on Tuesday, April 18 at home.
