On March 30 the boys varsity track team had a meet at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School. Linganore finished 22 points behind Oakdale, putting them in second.

The weather conditions at the meet weren’t the best. The temperature rose to 76 degrees. Contrary to what spectators would expect, the athletes didn’t enjoy performing on such a hot day. Many were badly sunburned because of being outside all day.

“It was mentally stressful, because I wanted the weather to be a bit cooler for my sub 4:20 mile attempt,” said Will Cioffi.

Michael Belmaggio placed first in the 3200 meter with a time of 9:36.02. Carter Holsinger won pole vault with a height of 14’ 07”. This is a new school record for outdoor track, and a new PR for Holsinger in outdoor; although, during the indoor season he jumped 15’1”. Holsinger also got a PR in the 300 meter Hurdles, running a 43.87, and in the triple jump, jumping 39’9″.

There were a few other podium finishes as well, Will Cioffi placed second in the 1600 meter. Ethan Hart placed third in the discus. For the high jump Colby Bannon placed third.

This meet was one of the longest meets of the year, lasting from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Most of the athletes spent the day waiting in the heat until their events.

The next track meet is April 10 at Urbana at 4:00 p.m.
