April 17, the tennis team faced North Hagerstown. Although they took team loses, the girls team didn’t go down without a fight.

The girls fell just short of winning, taking 2 matches, to North Hagerstown’s 3. Olivia Hiltke and Alexa Wetrogan both won their singles matches, with Hiltke winning with ease. The North Hagerstown girls took the doubles match. Wetrogan was playing with a broken left thumb, which was a setback for her, but she managed the win. The doubles match came down to the end, with Kelsey Wiegand and Diana Bryan losing in a tiebreaker. The girls team now has a record of 4-7.

The boys team had a rough day against North Hagerstown, losing all of their matches. First singles player Charlie Rasmussen was playing on an injured ankle, which was a big factor in his loss. The boys team also has a record of 4-7.

“There are many new players on both teams so we are in a rebuilding phase,” said Coach Mark Sunkel. Seniors who graduated last year included state contenders and star players.

The tennis teams’ next match is on the 24th against South Hagerstown.
