On December 7, basketball season tipped off in a wild night with the Lancers hosting the Lions. Coach Chris O’Connor debuted in his first game as the varsity coach.

Prior to the game, O’Connor said, “It will be good to see who has really brought themselves up to the level of play to start and see how pressure is handled by each and every player.”

The boys came out of the gate with a 16 point lead to end the first quarter, and the pressure did not let up there.

Varsity went on to win 76-29, with Francisco Palacios living up to O’Connor’s expectations, scoring 16 points. He wasn’t alone. Chase Maddox had 13 points including 3 threes from outside the arc. In fact, the whole varsity squad were 10-15 from downtown in just the first half.

Palacios said, “[I] just wanted to win and get everyone going, and I wanted to work with everyone and be a leader.”

The boys may have got the easy win, but this was just the first of many games. These players need to get a lot of rest because there a long season ahead.

Their next game is December 11, in a regional match up against the Frederick Cadets.
