On March 15th, the varsity baseball team took on the Blake High School Bengals at Blake High School. The team handed the Bengals a 15-3 loss extending their team’s record to 3-0 in preseason action.

Blake High School put up three unearned runs in the first inning to lead 3-0. After that it was the Lancer’s game as they responded with 15 runs in the innings to come. Hits by Matthew Gelhard, Sam Marth, and Darin Cline started a big second inning after a hitless first inning.

Tyler Perry pitched a scoreless final inning to end the game, and struck two batters out.

Even though this is only preseason, signs indicate a promising season to come. The team is looking to bounce back this season after taking a loss in the 3A West Sectional Final to Governor Thomas Johnson last spring.

“We have a lot of depth on this ball club. A key thing about this team is that we play as one cohesive unit,” outfielder Dylan Miller said.

The baseball team’s first regular season game is on Wednesday, March 21 at 4:30pm.  The Lancers will take on the South Carroll Cavaliers at home.
