On December 5, the varsity girls basketball team reigned victorious over the South Carroll Cavaliers. The game ended in the Lancer’s favor with the final score 54 – 39.

“It was a good first game for us to start with. They were a scrappy team on defense and gave constant pressure,” said Coach Rachael Easterday.

The first quarter showed the girls that South Carroll wanted their revenge after ending their game against Linganore last year earning only 12 points, without scoring once in the second half. Jessica Mitchell was unaffected by the defense and scored 9 points in the first quarter. The first quarter ended with the Lancers leading, 18-7.

The Cavaliers stepped up their game to try to close the gap before the half. Senior shooting guard Kara Probeyahn, had a great defensive game she had 2 steals in the second quarter. The score at half was still in favor of Linganore, 29- 21.

Linganore returned from the half-time with a new intensity. The Lancers scored 14 points in the third quarter, which was four more than South Carroll scored.  Senior guard Cailyn Barthlow, is returning from a broken leg, but her keen shot was a weapon against the Cavaliers.

During the fourth quarter Linganore got everyone off the bench, and all players had the chance to thrive in the game.

This game was a learning moment for Linganore. Every team is a threat, no matter the score of the last time you played them. The girls had more turnovers than steals and will have to fix this before moving on to the next game.
