On October 6 the varsity team lost against the opposing Oakdale Bears. A shoddy start in the beginning of the game with a fumble on the first play put Linganore in a tough spot for the rest of the game.

There was a lot riding on this game for the Lancers for if they had won this game, LHS could have stayed top in the region. This generated a lot of hype looking forward to the game with Oakdale being undefeated and LHS having a record of (4-1) before the game.

The game ended with a score 28-9.

In the first quarter the defense held their own in the first drive after Oakdale had recovered the fumble. The ball was already in red zone, but the defense held together and stopped a 4th down 3 yards to go drive. Sadly, the defense could not hold their ground during the next drive and the Oakdale Bears went up 7-0.

Kicking in the second quarter, Junior Bennett Formulak scored the first points for the Lancers on a 34-yard field goal. This wasn’t compared to the Bears’ back to back drives. The score by the end of first half was 28-3.

In the second half of the game, Lancers were able to put some more points on the board. Davon Butler scored a touchdown for Linganore. The Linganore defense was able to shut down the Oakdale offense for the rest of the game, but it wasn’t enough.

Only time can tell when the Lancers will bounce back.

“It was a disappointing performance, and we need to coach our kids better,” said Coach Rick Connor after the game.

Next week it is the Lancers against Kennedy at 7 at Kennedy. Be there to see our Linganore Lancers make a comeback.
