The Linganore JV Lancers baseball team lost a tough game April 3  away from home against Walkersville. The game was close the entire way, with Walkersville pulling ahead in the 5th inning and handing the Lancers their first loss of the season with a final score of 10-4.

A back-and-forth battle for the first 4 innings, the Lancers kept the game close at 3-3 against a tough Walkersville squad. But in the 5th inning, a costly error on the Lancer defense shifted momentum into Walkersville’s favor. Down into a 8-3 hole at the end of the 5th inning, the Lancers could never recover.

Despite the loss, there were some bright spots for the Lancers. They stole several bases, and Ryan Bartholow reached base three times. Despite their on-base success, 13 of those base runners were left on base in scoring positions.

Starting catcher Matthew Gelhard was dissatisfied with the team’s performance. “Errors really killed us today. We also didn’t come in clutch when cashing in runners when on base.” Gelhard walked twice and stole a base.

At 1-1 this season, the Lancers look to get back on track in their next game against Brunswick on Thursday at Linganore.
