On February 11th, MASC (Maryland Association of Student Councils) Legislative Session delegates voted for their two nominees for state SMOB (Student Member of the Board of Education) for the 17/18 school year.

Delegates, attending from high schools all across Maryland, had the opportunity to vote for two of the five candidates running. Before voting, candidates gave campaign speeches and answered questions.

The two nominees who won are Kyle Smith of Charles County and Maggie Chen of Montgomery County.

The next step in the process is forwarding of the names of the nominees to the Governor Hogan who will appoint one to serve for the upcoming school year.

Jane Quackenbush, a delegate from Linganore, said, “Attending enriched my understanding of how SGA (Student Government) and the BOE (Board of Education) work.”

Six delegates from Linganore attended the event. Jane Quackenbush, Ben Rose, Brady Moore, Josh Watson, Jack Watsic and Alex Ismael. The delegates also voted on bills that will influence policies at the state level.
