On Wednesday, May 18th and Thursday, May 19th, the Linganore track and field team traveled to Urbana High School to compete in the 3A West Regional Championships.

Among Linganore’s star athletes is Class of 2017 member, Micah Hewitson.  During the duration of the regional meet, Hewitson qualified for states in four events including: 3200, 1600, 800, and 4×400.

In the 3200, Micah was able to outrun his competitors to a PR of 9:29.76, crushing his previous PR of 9:40.57.

The 1600 played out in a similar way, as Hewitson was able to challenge Darren Harman of South Hagerstown.  He finished first, tying his PR of 4:24.

Going into the 800, Hewitson battled with Oakdale’s Evan Kowalk for the title.  Just behind Kowalk, Hewitson placed second.  Although he didn’t capture the 800 title, he was able to PR and reach his goal of breaking two minutes with a time of 1:58.71.

Hewitson finished regionals by anchoring the 4×400.  The boys 4×400, made up of Class of 2018 member Lars Eklund, Class of 2018 member Clay Buckman, Class of 2017 member Alec Matthews, and Hewitson, received a PR of 3:30.51 and a fourth place finish, qualifying their team to the 2016 MPSSAA State Championships.

Come out to Morgan State University on Friday, May 27th and Saturday, May 28th to support Hewitson and the rest of the track and field team.
