League of Women Voters help students register to vote: Photo of the Day 2/29/16

On February 29th, the League of Women Voters of Frederick County held a voter registration during all lunch periods. Marc Welch of the Board of Elections, volunteer Melanie Smith Bell, and Val Dale of the LWV assisted eligible students to register to vote, revise their registrations, and sign up to be election judges.

“Often, young people are untapped potential” in elections, says Dale, who has been with the League of Women Voters for 20 years. “They have energy, and look for things in candidates that other voters do not see.”

An important local election coming up is the 8th Congressional District election. The Montgomery and Frederick County branches of the LWV, along with Hood College, are hosting a forum for all candidates on Sunday, March 13th at Hood College. Those interested in attending the forum can find more information of the website of the LWV of Montgomery County.

“I appreciated that they were at lunch because I was able to make a change to my voter registration.  It was convenient,” said Kasal Smaha.

If you missed the opportunity to register at lunch, you can still register until the first of April.
