The Harry Potter Alliance is a club dedicated to the appreciation of the magical world of witchcraft and wizardry, as introduced in the well-known book series, Harry Potter.

On the first meeting, Harry Potter Alliance members took a quiz and were sorted into the famed four houses. The houses include Hufflepuff, Slytherin, Gryffindor, and Ravenclaw. Throughout the year, the four houses have competed and have collected points to determine who will receive the House Cup at the last meeting.

In the books, the House Cup is an award given annually by Hogwarts to the house with the most points. The Hogwarts students were given points by teachers if they answered questions correctly or did good deeds, and they earned points in Quidditch matches.

In the club, house members earned points by donating books, answering questions correctly in Harry Potter trivia tournaments, and by doing various other good deeds. Although there will be a Quidditch match in May, the points will not be added to the houses.

Gryffindor, the house with the most members, came in first place and won the 2016 House Cup. Ravenclaw came in second; Hufflepuff was third; and Slytherin was fourth.

“I think that this club is great because it’s where we all come together and talk about a thing we all enjoy. It has been a great experience, I love Harry Potter Alliance,” said senior Madelyn Grodahl.

Senior Cory Haddock agrees with Grodahl. “I love how we come in to the club and we all just have fun. I was able to meet new people through the club, and overall it was a better experience than I first expected.”

Although the in-club Harry Potter Alliance festivities have come to an end, the club’s head-girls, seniors Corrine DeFrancisci and Marissa Maze, encourage all students, not just Harry Potter Alliance members, to participate in the Quidditch match on May 17th directly after school. More information will be available from club advisor Marsha Thompson in the media center.
