The Unified Bocce Ball team had a successful season. They tied two matches, won a match and lost a match throughout the winter season. The team celebrated on Thursday, February 5 by having a pizza party in Mark Sunkel’s room. It was full of laughter and reminiscing.

Joe Morris, a senior and participant of Unified Bocce Ball for four years said, “This will be a season to remember, even after I graduate.”

The Unified Bocce Ball team competed at the district tournament on Wednesday, February 4. All six students who participated won a bronze medal; however, they will not be moving on to states.  The coaches for Unified Bocce Ball are Mr. Mark Sunkel, Mrs. Cheryl Novotny, and Ms. Susan DeLizia.

The Unified Sports program also includes tennis in the fall and track in the spring and all three are equally rewarding.

Coach DeLizia said, “It’s a joy and a pleasure to coach such kind and compassionate students, and fine young athletes.”

Unified Sports is developed through Special Olympics Maryland and is a great way for students to interact and have fun. If you or someone you know is interested in getting involved listen to the morning announcements or see Mr.Sunkel when information is given in the fall, winter and spring.
