Seven win Scholastic Art Awards: Photo of the day 2/5/2015

Congratulations to the seven winners of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition.  The competition was held in the northeast region of the United States, including  Maryland, New York, Maine, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Thousands of artists entered their work in different media, including photographs, paintings, jewelry, ceramics/glass, and fashion. These are the only seven to win in all of Frederick County.

“I was happy when I found out I won an award,” said senior Elizabeth Peterson. “I didn’t expect to win because there were thousands of other people who also submitted their work.”

  • Elizabeth Arnold received an Honorable Mention for her photograph Through a glass darkly
  • Amanda Germann received an Honorable Mention for her hand forged necklace
  • Kaila Gordon received an Honorable Mention for her photograph Pomegranate
  • Alexandra Hammersla received two Honorable Mentions for her dotted teapot and her wire wrapped cup.
  • Jeweliana Hendrickson received the Silver Key award for her photograph Perks of Living on a Farm
  • Elizabeth Peterson received the Silver Key award for her painting Fight Club (1999)
