Tuesday, November 3  was the first round of playoffs for the boys and girls soccer. The girls brought home an impressive 7-1 win against Governor Thomas Johnson High School. The boys played Tuscarora High School and were defeated in a low-scoring game, 1-0.

While the boys played an intense game, they failed to capitalize on the booming punts from keeper, Matthew Milner. Linganore went into halftime trailing Tuscarora after Tuscarora barely managed to sneak one by Milner.

After the the half, Linganore did well getting a multitude of fast break-aways that always appeared as though they would lead to the goal, yet Tuscarora’s defenders were fast and the Lancers couldn’t put one in.

“I felt we needed to control the ball more in the midfield and connect more passes,” said defender Jordan Frome.

Hope ran high halfway through the second half after two consecutive corner kicks, taken by Adam Needle, came down to the skill of Josh Watson and the Tuscarora keeper. Neither time Linganore scored. Having lost what seemed like their only opportunity to put points on the board, Linganore’s fans were anxious.

As the clock ran down to the final seconds, the Lancers fought hard but, without support near the goal, many fast breaks by Lancer strikers, Gregory Dorsche, Caleb Needle, Adam Needle, and Zach Yurich, couldn’t be awarded with points. When the clock hit 00:00 the score was still 0-1, Tuscarora.

This loss officially removes Linganore from the playoffs and any chance at states.
