On Friday, December 1, Linganore High School (LHS) held its third annual Multicultural Night: an event made to showcase and promote diversity within the school and surrounding community.

The event was put together by assistant principal Michelle Gilmore and staff members Jessica Walker and Patricia Kolias. Seniors Ava Taylor and Ray Helm are student leaders and also helped plan the event.

Multicultural Night was free to attend and was open to the general public. The event featured many attractions such as culture and club booths and food trucks. There were also performances including a fashion show, talent show and drum circle.

Some performances featured Linganore Girls Step (LGS), New Market Middle School student Libby Knight with an original song, Michael Jackson impressionist Malcolm Roberts, traditional Indian dancing by Kusumitha Addala and Vivekashree Jayaseelan, Nathan Bonano with a original written composition and a fashion show featuring Barbies, Kens, Bratz and other special guests.

Senior Vanessa Linton, president of the Asian Pacific Islander Club, handed out samples of different foods as well as boba tea, for anyone who wanted to try it.

Juniors Genevieve Vlha and Cara Morgan, president and vice president of Leo Club, were ecstatic to see the Linganore Girls Step team perform towards the end of the night. LGS performed well at the recent Pep Rally, and students were excited to see what they had in store.

Senior Mahati Konduri, who represented India, expressed her belief that exposing the Linganore community to diversity is important and that events such as these help Linganore community members learn about all types of cultures from those with different backgrounds.

Multicultural night was enjoyed by all those who attended.

Marcus Allen, one of Linganore’s assistant principals, enjoyed all aspects of the event.

“Wow, what an opportunity– if you haven’t been here, you need to get here,” said Allen.
