On April 8, 2021, the National English Honor Society hosted an outdoor and socially distanced sidewalk chalk poetry event. There was also an option for the members to create poetry art from the comfort of their own homes by sharing out on twitter pictures of their creation.

Preparing any event during a pandemic is a difficult task.

The officers needed to consider the “rules” for the event, including personal packages of sidewalk chalk, social distancing and permission to gather.

The sidewalk chalk poetry event was in honor of the celebration of National Poetry Month. This event highlighted some of the members’ favorite poetry in a fun and exciting way to decorate the school’s sidewalks.

During the event, members in-person met, socially distanced, to decorate the sidewalk with their favorite poems.

Skylar Stevenson, a senior, said, “The chalk poetry event was super successful! I thought it was a fun way to work with my fellow NEHS members to bring some poetry representation to the school.”
