Noah Ismael: Most likely to . . . change the world

Noah Ismael: Most likely to . . . change the world

This is the eighth story in Lancer Media’s Summer Series: Most Likely to… These feature stories highlight students who are becoming role models of Lancer Spirit

Rising junior Noah Ismael is the brains behind Linganore High School’s student newspaper, The Lance. He is the Editor in Chief: the staff of The Lance even calls him “Chief.” He was made to lead the staff and earned recognition his freshman year, even before he had taken journalism as a class. He wrote about the school mascot and won the Frederick News-Post’s 1st place Mike Powell award for a “Feature on a State or National Subject.”

Since then, he has helped The Lance win the 2014 Sweepstakes Award, recognition for the most winning entries in the county at the annual awards. He is the first LHS sophomore to be inducted in the Quill and Scroll Honor Society.

“Noah pushes all of us to try new approaches to the school newspaper. Our website and content have won recognition, and he does a good job of thinking about the next step. We tease him about his to-do lists, but that’s a good habit!” said Mrs. Natalie Rebetsky.

In addition, Ismael was a drum major during the 2013 marching band season and will be a drum major for the upcoming school year. The drum major is a conductor and a leader of the band; this is an unusual achievement for a sophomore.

Band director Kevin Lloyd could list many reasons why he chose Ismael to be a drum major. “He has really good relationships with the other band members; he is a problem solver; he is very organized; and he is a good musician.”

The Main Street showcase Canstruction was his idea as Class of 2016 Vice President. Next year, Ismael will continue to be the Vice President of the Class of 2016. He has created and led many of the Class of 2016 projects, including The Princess Bride movie night in 2013 and the canned food drive in Spring 2014.

SGA Advisor Jeremy Brown describes Ismael as “extremely committed, dedicated, and thorough.”

Over the summer, Noah will be as busy as ever. He plans to think of ways to improve The Lance, prepare for the marching band season, and go to drum major camps.

Ismael does not like to have free time. He surrounds himself with many projects and tries to keep himself busy.

His mother, Jennifer, said, “Noah does not now, nor has he ever, enjoyed being bored. I also think he realizes that if he has nothing to do, I will happily occupy his time with a job around the house, and I’m certain he doesn’t want that!”

Noah has many interests, so he is unsure which one he wants to pursue as a career, but the opportunity to lead is important to him. His mother sees him as pursuing careers in journalism or in computer science.

“There are a lot of opportunities here at Linganore. If you search hard enough, there is something for everyone,” said Ismael.
