On January 13, the Boys JV basketball team had their home game against Urbana High School.
Linganore started strong during the first quarter and kept the lead during the second and third quarters of the game.
By halftime, the Lancer team was leading by 28-17, but Urbana played harder during the second half of the game, closing the gap. By the end of the fourth quarter, Linganore and Urbana tied 48-48, taking the game into overtime to break the tie.
The Lancers stepped up and played their hardest to pull out a win in the end with a score of 57-50.
Sophomore Kenneth Butler performed well during the game. He shared his thoughts about the game.
In the beginning, we were really starting strong and we played our hardest and stepped up throughout the game to win,” Butler said. “I felt great overall, and I did try to hype up the team to help us play stronger. When we were tied up by Urbana, my thoughts were to play stronger and become better.”
Other players shared their thoughts on the game and how the team did well overall.
Sophomore Conner Henry said: “It was pretty intense, but we did a good job for most of the game, and when it got close to the end, we played our hardest. I was very nervous to see what would happen but I had confidence in our team too and we did our best.”
Assistant JV basketball Coach Jim Gorski also shared his thoughts about how the team played and how they were able to pull out a win in overtime.
“Overall, I believe that we got off to a tremendous start in the game,” Gorski said. “We were able to basically do whatever we wanted offensively and defensively, and we got them to turn the ball over which was very positive. When we were tied, I was thinking: what are we going to do to motivate the kids and get them ready for overtime to win the game?”
With their coach hyping up the team to clinch the win, sophomore Adam Krystofiak commented on how he rallied to beat Urbana.
“There were lots of ups and downs, but it was a crazy game,” Krystofiak said. “I was calm, but my legs were killing me, so I had to not think about that. I was in shock when we were tied, especially by how much we were up by, but I could handle it and get the win.”
The team has a positive mindset heading into the rest of the season.
