Winter sports at Linganore High School (LHS) are finally upon us as the varsity and junior varsity (JV) basketball seasons have officially kicked off.

Last season, boys’ varsity finished with a record of 19-3 while also sweeping their rivals, the Oakdale Bears, who were the eventual 3A Maryland State Champions.

The Lancers started the season 8-0 and also won the Central Maryland Conference (CMC) Championship against the Walkersville Lions.

Despite a strong season led by senior guard, Timmy Connor, the Lancers fell to Governor Thomas Johnson High School in the first round of the state playoffs 46-39.

This season, the varsity team is without all five starters from last season, but they are hopeful they can re-build their identity as a team.

Junior Will Bryd, one of the team’s newest players, is ready for the challenge of this upcoming season.

On Saturday, November 26, the Lancers played in a three-team scrimmage versus Winston Churchill High School and Williamsport High School.

The scrimmages were not intended to focus on wins or losses; instead, they were scheduled as a way for the team to learn to work well together before real games begin. Despite this, LHS boys’ varsity team still won three of the five quarters played.

The highlight of the scrimmages was Sophmore Jake Vollmer who knocked down four three-pointers.

Sophomore Dylan Hodgson expressed his view of how the Lancers stacked up against the competition.

“I believe we can compete with any team in the county,” said Hodgson.

The Lancers season kicks off with a game at home against South Carroll High School at 7 p.m. The JV team will also play that evening, taking the court at 5:30 p.m.

Some notable games on the Lancer’s upcoming schedule include a home game against Oakdale High School on December 16 and a home game against Urbana High School on February 7.

The team will also appear in the Governers Challenge Tournament at Wicomico High School on December 28-29.

Tickets are available for purchase in packages or for single games at GoFan.
