Frederick County Md is a beautiful part of the state with many amazing places to visit. This is a short list of eight of the top sites to explore and what makes them worth the visit.

Gaver Farm

Gaver Farm is located in Mount Airy, Md. It is a great place to visit with tons of fun activities to do year-round. In the fall, visitors are able to feed animals such as goats, sheep and chickens. Families can also take a hay ride where they can pick pumpkins or explore a cornfield maze. Apple cider doughnuts and other food and gift items are available to purchase. Gaver also allows families to pick out and cut a Christmas tree as the holiday season nears. The Gaver Farm staff are always friendly and helpful.

Firehouse Pottery & Arts

Firehouse Pottery & Arts is perfect for parties or meeting up with friends or family. Visitors are able to pick out their own piece of pottery to paint using watercolors. It is a place where anyone can express creativity or hone art skills, no matter their age or skill level. It has been described by some as a fun, relaxing environment.

Black Hog BBQ

Black Hog is a franchise restaurant located on South Market Street in downtown Frederick. This is a great spot to take friends and family for lunch or dinner. The friendly atmosphere is brightly lit with a western style decor and TVs for entertainment placed throughout. The restaurant serves subs, sandwiches, and a variety of smoked meats, including ribs, beef brisket and pulled pork. They also have normal bar food such as burgers and chicken wings.

Sugarloaf Mountain Trail

Sugarloaf Mountain got its name from early pioneers and hunters who said it looked like a sugarloaf in its shape and size. Sugarloaf is a year-round attraction and “nearly quarter million” people come every year for hiking and biking adventures. There are four different trails ranging from a 1⁄2 mile to 7 miles in length.

Adventure Park USA

Adventure Park is located in Monrovia Md. It opened in 2005 and offers many activities appealing to kids including bowling, laser tag, arcade games and rides. A calendar is available on the website for potential visitors to view the various scheduled events.

Monocacy National Battlefield (historical location)

In the Battle of Monocacy, fought in the summer of 1864, approximately 2,200 men died between the Confederate and Union sides. This historic site allows visitors to see the actual battleground, and a tour of the battlefield guides one through the history and importance of the battle and its historic importance to both the Civil War and the region.

Cryin Johnnies 

Cryin johnnies is located in downtown Mount Airy. It has a bar and nice, modern decor and serves many types of hotdogs, which is what gives the place its name. Families are drawn to the simple yet enjoyable experience. 

Downtown Frederick 

There are many things to explore in downtown Frederick. For example, the walking tours of Frederick include an art tour, ghost tour, or history tour. In addition to well-loved restaurants which can appeal to all the local foodies, there are many social events such as First Saturdays and Fire in Ice which returns on February 4.
