On Friday, January 5, the Linganore High School (LHS) girls’ basketball team won a triumphant battle against the North Hagerstown High School girls’ team.

Over the course of the game, the Lancers held the Hubs to just 22 points, coming out 50 points on top to make the final score 72-22 Linganore.

The Lancers picked up quick momentum in the first quarter, putting 23 points on the board and holding North Hagerstown to just two baskets.

Then, in the second quarter, Linganore more than doubled their score while only allowing the Hubs to sink six points worth of shots.

Junior Kayleigh Lake was a massive help in terms of securing rebounds and second-chance points for the Lancers throughout the game. She ended the game with 13 points and 7 rebounds.

Lake was also a huge contributor to leading scorer senior Trinity Lindblade’s game by passing the ball back out onto the key once she got the rebound.

Lake spoke on the importance of teamwork and trusting her teammates during the game, as well as preparation for the competition beforehand.

“I trust Trin a lot when it comes to her shooting,” Lake said. “We keep the same mindset for every game: win. We don’t treat any team differently depending on how good or bad they are, so we went in with the same mindset and just did everything we went over [before the game].”

The Lancers did not just win on offense alone, however; their defense proved almost unbreakable when it came to stopping the Hubs from scoring and getting the ball back down the court to the Linganore offensive side.

Senior Madie Brohawn proved herself to be a critical asset to the team during the second half of the tournament, assisting many members of the team to get points on the board and snagging a few rebounds for herself.

Brohawn believes that the key to a strong performance like the one on Friday night is communication between each and every teammate on the court.

“It [the game plan] works better when we all communicate and cut [to the basket] a lot,” said Brohawn. “We did a good job on that, and we’ve been working on it a lot. It’s getting better, and it’ll get better each game [we play].”

The Linganore varsity girls’ basketball team is now 11-2 on their season. Be sure to check the Linganore Athletics website or their Instagram page for their schedule and more information on their season.
