Linganore High School (LHS) has many traditions throughout the school year. As a senior, additional meaningful traditions exist solely to soak in the very last year of high school.
On September 10, Linganore’s seniors, the Class of 2025, came together for the annual Senior Sunrise. This event took place at the bottom lot football field and was organized by the student council. This is the fourth year the event was held at Linganore.
Class of 2025 treasurer, Rachel Beckman, believes senior sunrise is an important event since it is the start of the “lasts” and memories that will remain for a lifetime.
Beckman and the rest of the class council went through many obstacles to organize this event for seniors.
“First we had to meet with our class advisors Mr. Brown and Mrs. Davies to select a date and figure out where we will have the senior sunrise,” Beckman said. “Then, we had to make a request for a meeting with Dr. Dillman to get it reviewed to finally make it happen.”
Leading up to the event, the Class of 2025 made numerous social media posts advertising the event to spread awareness. As part of the event, it is tradition for the senior class to get together at 6:30 a.m. to watch the sunrise and take pictures, while the Tribe cooks breakfast for students to enjoy. Any senior has the privilege to stay and enjoy the view and company until school starts for the day.
Tribe member Theodore Williamson was inspired to join everyone early in the morning for this tradition.
“It’s worth it to show up because it is a tradition passed down and a fun opportunity to celebrate being a senior,” Williamson said.
Senior Gianina Broccolino, who attended the event, felt that Senior Sunrise met the expectation of being memorable.
“I would say that it made me realize how blessed I am to have all my friends and how I need to enjoy the time I have left with them,” Broccolino said.
Soon, each senior will graduate together and walk the stage with their cap and gown, and this may be one of the most fondest high school memories they are left with.
