On January 27, the Pom and Dance Team attended their first competition of the 2018 season. The Mid-Atlantic Pom and Dance Association (MAPDA) competition took place at Marriotts Ridge High School.

The team competed in two dances, Short Pom and Lyrical. Katie Constantine is captain for short pom, and Kelsey Ward is captain for the lyrical dance.

For short pom, the team competed against North Point High School, Good Counsel High School, Gwynn Park High School and River Hill High School. For lyrical, the team competed against River Hill High School and Glenelg High School.

The team placed third for both dances. The girls were disappointed with the results and have plans to improve for their next competition in February.

The competition team is made up of 17 girls, including two freshmen, five sophomores, seven juniors and three seniors. The team is coached by Mrs. Michelle Richardson.

“I’m proud of everyone on the team. They worked really hard this week, and everyone gave it their all. We just have to work even harder for our next competition,” said Constantine.

The team’s next competition is on February 10 at Frederick Douglas High School.
