In February, Rachael Moravansky and Shannon McGoey became two of the eleven finalists for the “The 2018 Bettie Award.” This award is named for Bettie Delaplaine a lifelong supporter of the arts who inspired many artists in her years. Shannon McGoey won the Jurors’ Choice award and $250 at the recent gallery on March 3.

Shannon McGoey’s piece,”Art Nouveau Comb”is a comb out of brass and copper with an elegant floral design on the top. Rachael Moravansky created a ceramics piece with a secret play on words. Her piece named “Crowbar” includes a bar scene with a crow sitting on top of the bar.

On March 3rd at 2:00 pm at the Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, artwork from all over the county was exhibited and judged. The prize winner for the “2018 Bettie Award” received $1,000 dollar award, and the other finalists received $100.

Both McGoey and Moravansky agreed that they were both honored to be a part of it.

Ms. Geisser, the art teacher of both girls, was proud of both of their successes. “It is an honor to have Linganore represented in the prestigious Bettie Awards.” she also added ” I am truly amazed at the work our students produce and the quality of which they perform,” she said.

Congratulations to both extraordinary artists for becoming finalists.
