Of the 13 LHS honor societies to chose from, the due date for the National English Honor Society application is approaching first on September 18th at 3 p.m.

The National English Honor Society is a group of juniors and seniors who truly love English and want all Lancers to as well. They provide tutoring after school, engage in English related activities, and much more. The NEHS motto is, “Duty goes with honor.”

Students eligible to apply must have an unweighted cumulative average overall of 3.0 or higher with all A’s and B’s in English classes and demonstrate enthusiasm for language arts.  Students with a record of disciplinary action will not be considered.

Different this year, the application is online and can be found at the LHS NEHS website. The application is in a Google form; therefore, students should save their progress in a Google doc. (The application will take at least two sittings.)

Mrs. Natalie Rebetsky, NEHS adviser, recommends having someone read a student’s application before submitting and checking grammar. Students who will be inducted this year will be notified by October 10.

“The most important thing to remember about the application is that this is an English  honor society.  Demonstrating enthusiasm for language arts is essential to being accepted,” Rebetsky said.

Once inducted, students are required to complete a writing contest or scholarship (yearly) and participate in 6 hours of club activities (per school year), including tutoring.

Good luck to all those applying!
