On November 4, 2016 the varsity football team played Urbana, but this game wasn’t like any of the others. During the game sophomore Cody Huber was taken from the football game by helicopter to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore

He had emergency brain surgery. Thankfully, Huber pulled through and had his breathing tube taken out the next morning.  The Frederick News Post reported on the football win and Huber’s injury.

The next week at the Damascus football game, the tribe painted either CODY or HUBER on their backs in support of the missing player. The football team also got in on the action and wore stickers on the backs of their helmets with the number 56.

This week, the SGA is raising money in an effort to help the family pay for the expresses associated with the injury. At all lunch shifts there is a donation bucket where students and staff can put money in an effort to elevate the stress of paying medical bills.

Secretary of the Class of 2017 Lexi Watson, said, “I think it’s great that they are raising money for him and his family.”

Students all have the opportunity to sign a card for Huber to get better soon. All students are welcome and encouraged to sign his card in a show of support of a fellow Lancer.
