The current juniors of have begun their “canstruction” food drive. Their goal is to collect at least 2,000 non-perishable canned food donations (beating their 1,400 record from last year) in order to build a sculpture. What better to display in the glass showcase on Main Street than the Maryland state flag?

Once the donations are collected they will be “can-structed” into the shape of the flag, wrapped with colorful construction paper, and be placed accordingly. Last year’s project took a team of students and teachers about four hours to complete.

Class officer, Noah Ismael, predicts that the class of 2016 will  need at least 1,500 cans to complete the sculpture. This project is a fun and creative way to raise food donations while school/state pride.  Bring cans to the front office, the bus entrance, or the athletic entrance and they will not only be used for the sculpture to display inside school, but be greatly appreciated.

All of the cans will be be donated to the Frederick Food Bank or other nonprofit organizations like churches to help those around you in need.
