The Lance interviewed Mrs. Ilana Blum as a part of the 54 Questions feature. Blum is a student services counselor at Linganore who specializes in ninth graders. She helps the freshmen adjust to the school and with any problem or question they may have. This is her second year at Linganore and she does not plan on leaving anytime soon.

Blum graduated from the University of Delaware after earning her Bachelor’s Degree and from the University of Maryland at College Park upon completing her Master’s Degree. She has taught multiple places before Linganore. Including teaching middle school math in Delaware, being an elementary school counselor for two years, a middle school counselor for three and a half years and a long term substitute in both Frederick and Howard Counties for one year.

Why should ninth graders know Mrs. Blum?

Blum is the one who freshmen should go to should they have any problems. She has her own office within Student Services. Students should never be afraid to talk to Mrs. Blum she says she does her job because she loves helping kids.

Sophomore, Lily Johnson, says “She always wants to help students out, and she is always willing to talk about anything you need to.” Johnson always feels comfortable when talking to Mrs. Blum and recommends that ninth graders go to her if they ever need help.

Blum says her favorite part about working with freshmen is, “I like knowing them from the very beginning so I get the chance to watch them grow and mature into young adults.”

If you ever need help next year be sure to ask Mrs. Blum; she’s always happy to help.
