Marsha Thompson distributes a Chromebook to student, Sylvia Nelson

by Hannah Haught, Managing Editor

On January 30th, new Chromebooks were distributed to students who had signed up to receive one. The laptops, previously only in use by the class of 2020, extended their reach to upperclassmen as well.

The Chromebooks are part of Linganore’s plan to become a one-to-one school. The one-to-one system is one device, typically a laptop, to one student each. It’s another big step Linganore is taking to become more technologically advanced, being one out of only four schools to have the Chromebooks.

The Chromebooks provide a big help to students; the computers are small, lightweight, and run quickly, allowing students to get assignments done quicker and more effectively.

Media specialist, Marsha Thompson, said “It’s an exciting opportunity for Linganore to go one-to-one with electronic devices.”

The Chromebooks are not all fun and games though, with them students also accept responsibility for the devices. They must keep them, clean, safe, and in their case whenever they’re not in use. When a student signs the form to receive a Chromebook they are promising to take proper care of the laptop they have been issued.

While having the Chromebooks is a big responsibility, they also provide an new opportunities to both students and educators alike. If you would like to check out a Chromebook of your own please see Ms. Thompson in the media center.
