David Schultz wrestled on Monday, March 9 in the State Championship Tournament, which was originally scheduled for Friday, March 6, but was postponed due to poor weather conditions.

It was a two-day tournament, the first day was Saturday, March 7. The tournament took place at the University of Maryland in the Cole Field House for the last year due to the plan for Cole Field House renovations.

When asked about the tournament experience, Schultz said “The best part would be just probably being there because it means you’re one of the best and it’s just an honor.”

Schultz took fourth place out of 18 wrestlers in his weight class, finishing an outstanding season of 36 wins and four losses. He was also the only freshman to make it to states for his weight class.  Watch a video of Schultz’s performance against Tuscarora earlier this season.

In other wrestling news, former Linganore wrestling coach Rich Gialanella was inducted into the Maryland Wrestling Hall of Fame.  He coached at Linganore for 23 seasons and led his team to the regional championship in 1994.
