For the past three years the Frederick Municipal Airport has held the Frederick Festival of Flight, and year after year they are improving their attractions and expanding their influence in the community.
The festival is an annual event taking place every September. The event this year took place on Sept. 27, with events from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the Frederick Municipal Airport on 310 Aviation Way.
The Festival of Flight is an event where members of the Frederick community can experience the aircraft that fly there and the organizations and businesses that operate there.
Visitors can observe some of the aircraft in flight and talk with businesses and other standees attending the festival.
While at the festival, visitors can explore the many different events which change every year. They have multiple educational sessions like the Aviation Education tent (presents slideshows on various aviation topics throughout the day), Learning to fly (sessions that cover what it takes to be a pilot), and Responsible Drone use (presentations focus on the FAA regulations for flying drones). All at different times, allowing visitors to participate in every single one.
The festival also has various demonstrations that range from an agriculture drone to old aircraft. They also allow guests to ride in the old aircraft for $200 per 3 people.
Victoria Zajko, who is a part of the festival’s planning team, says that “each year we are getting bigger and better.”
Zajko added, “the RC [Radio Controlled] show where we have various RC planes flying around, and our kid’s zone which has opportunities for kids to get introduced to STEM [science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics], are definitely staples that people would come and see.”
Each year, the festival provides an opportunity for different organizations to inform the visitors about their business and persuade them into being potential customers, while the airport hosts a pancake breakfast from 9 to 11 a.m. which patrons pay for by donating towards the airport.
